Privacy policy

Last updated 2 October 2026. This policy is available in English only.

This policy explains what personal information the LAVE website collects, why, who handles it, how long we keep it and what you can do about it. It covers getlave.app (the website, the sign-up form and the videos). It does not cover the LAVE app or test builds, which will have their own notice.

1. Who we are

The website is run by Synaesthesia LLC, a Florida limited liability company (“Synaesthesia”, “we”, “us”). We decide how and why the personal information described here is used. You can reach us at hello@synaesthesia.cc.

2. What we collect, why, and on what basis

When you sign up to test LAVE

What: your email address (required); and, if you choose to give them, your name, your role (DJ, VJ, venue or production, other), the platforms you use (Windows, macOS) and notes about your setup. We also record which language the page was in, the “source” of the link you arrived by if it had one (a utm_source tag), whether you ticked each optional box, the version of this policy shown and the date and time.

Why: to contact you about LAVE testing, for example to invite you to a test build. Basis: your consent, which you give by ticking the box and can withdraw at any time.

Optional extras, each separate and unticked by default: if you tick the news box we also email you occasional LAVE news and launch announcements. If you tick the partners box we may share your name, email, role and setup notes with LAVE hardware and software partners, who may contact you about LAVE. Basis: your consent for each. Saying no to either does not affect your place in the test.

When you press play on a video

Our videos are hosted by Mux, Inc. When you press play, your browser connects to Mux to receive the video, so Mux sees your IP address and basic device and browser information. Mux also provides playback analytics (“Mux Data”): which video was played, for how long, the quality and any buffering or errors, your device, browser and operating system, and your approximate location (country and state), worked out from your IP address, which Mux then shortens (pseudonymises) by dropping its last part. Mux gives each view a random ID and, because we turn cookies off, sets no cookie.

Why: to deliver the video and to understand how well the videos work and how many people watch them. Basis: our legitimate interests in running the site and understanding its use, which we balance against your privacy by collecting no names or emails there and setting no cookies. You can object (see section 7). Nothing is sent to Mux until you press play, and the video player itself is served from our own site.

When you visit the website

Our hosting provider, Vercel, processes technical information needed to serve and protect the site: your IP address, the pages you request, your browser type, and the time. We also briefly count requests per IP address in memory to stop abuse of the sign-up form; we do not store that count. Why: to deliver the site, keep it secure and prevent abuse. Basis: legitimate interests.

On the home page we also use Vercel Web Analytics to count visits. For each page view it records the page address, the page you came from, any tracking tag on the link you used, your approximate location (country, region and city), your device type, and your browser and operating system. It sets no cookie. Vercel recognises a visit by a hash made from the request itself and discards it after 24 hours, and the figures we see are totals that do not identify you. Why: to see how many people visit and which pages and links bring them. Basis: legitimate interests, which we balance against your privacy by setting no cookie and keeping no profile of you. You can object (see section 7).

When you email us

We keep your message and address so we can reply. Basis: legitimate interests (answering you).

We do not collect payment details, government IDs or any special categories of personal information, we do not make decisions about you by automated means, and we do not use advertising or tracking that follows you from one website to another.

3. Cookies and similar technologies

We set no cookies. Your browser stores two small preferences on your own device, neither of which is sent to us or anyone else:

You can clear them any time in your browser settings. Because we set no cookies (Vercel Web Analytics and Mux Data are both used without them), there is no cookie banner. If that changes, we will update this policy and ask for your consent first where the law requires it.

4. Who we share information with

We use these service providers, who handle information only on our instructions:

Partners, only if you tick the box: we may pass your name, email, role and setup notes to LAVE hardware and software partners (for example makers of DJ, lighting or show-control equipment and software). Once a partner has your details it is responsible for how it uses them under its own policy, so ask it directly about them.

We may also disclose information if the law requires it or to protect rights, safety or security, and to a successor if Synaesthesia is merged with or sold to another business (we would tell you, and the promises in this policy would continue to apply).

We do not sell your personal information and we do not share it for advertising.

5. Where your information goes

Our providers operate mainly in the United States, so your information is likely to be processed outside the country where you live. Where the law requires a safeguard for transfers from the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, we rely on the safeguards our providers offer, such as the EU–US Data Privacy Framework or Standard Contractual Clauses.

6. How long we keep it

We keep sign-up details until you ask us to delete them, and then we delete them from our mailbox and records within 30 days. Playback analytics are kept by Mux, in the pseudonymised form described above, for the period set in Mux’s own terms. Hosting logs and visit statistics are kept by Vercel for the period set in its terms; the statistics are totals. If you asked us to share your details with a partner, ask the partner too if you want it to delete them.

7. Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to know what we hold about you and to get a copy; to correct it; to have it deleted; to limit or object to how we use it; to move it elsewhere; and to withdraw consent at any time (withdrawing does not affect what we did before). If you tick a box on the form you can untick it later simply by telling us.

To use any of these rights, email hello@synaesthesia.cc. We will reply within one month, and we may need to confirm it is really you. It costs nothing.

If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, you can also complain to your local data protection authority.

California. You can ask us what we have collected about you, ask us to delete or correct it, and tell us not to sell or share it. In the last 12 months we have collected identifiers (name, email address, IP address), professional information (role and setup notes you give us) and internet activity (playback data from videos), from you and from your browser, to run the site and to contact you. We have not sold personal information or shared it for cross-context behavioural advertising, and we do not collect sensitive personal information as defined by California law. We will not treat you worse for using your rights.

Elsewhere. If your country’s law gives you similar rights (for example in Japan), email us and we will honour them as far as the law requires.

8. Children

The website is not for anyone under 16 and we do not knowingly collect information from them. If you think a child has given us their details, email us and we will delete them.

9. Security

The site is served over HTTPS, the sign-up form is checked and rate-limited, and sign-ups are kept in a private mailbox. No system is perfectly secure, so we cannot promise absolute security.

10. Do Not Track

We do not track you across websites, so there is nothing for a Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control signal to switch off. Our handling is the same whether or not your browser sends one.

11. Changes to this policy

If we change this policy we will update the date at the top. If a change affects how we use details you have already given us, we will tell you, and we will ask again where your consent is needed (for example before using your details in a new way).
